He sustained over seventy wounds that day and lost the use of his hand — yet survived. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (ra) later said: "That day belonged entirely to Talha." The Prophet ﷺ testified that Talha had earned Paradise on that battlefield — hence "the martyr who walks the earth."
His Legendary Generosity
Talha (ra) became one of the wealthiest Sahaba through trade, and used his wealth almost entirely for the ummah. He would sometimes distribute over 700,000 dirhams in a single day. His wife once tried to hide some money from him because she feared he would give it all away — but when he found it, he distributed it immediately.
His Martyrdom
Talha (ra) was tragically killed at the Battle of the Camel in 656 CE — one of the great fitnahs (trials) between Companions after the assassination of Uthman (ra). He is universally honored across all Muslim traditions despite the political events of that era. He was buried in Basra.
